Maui County recently launched a new hotline so residents can easily learn when trash pickups are delayed and need to be rescheduled.
The Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division’s missed trash pickup hotline number is (808) 270-4444, and the audio recording is updated daily so county customers can get current information, the county said in a news release Wednesday.
The hotline also includes details on any county landfill closures.
Department Director Shayne Agawa said that while the goal is to collect trash on time and keep landfills open, there are times when it is not possible due to weather, mechanical issues or staff shortages.
“We set up the new hotline to provide a simple and convenient way for people to find out when their trash pickups are being rescheduled and when landfills are closed unexpectedly,” Agawa said in a news release. “We hope residential collection service customers are able to save time by getting information quickly.”
The Solid Waste Division provides residential curbside pickup and disposal in six major districts: Central Maui, which includes Wailuku, Kahului and South Maui; Makawao, which includes Kula, Pukalani, Paia and Haiku; Lahaina; Hana; Lanai; and Molokai.
