CBS2 Day of Giving for The Salvation Army: Helping teen mothers

July 2024 · 2 minute read

There are a lot of needs in our community, and CBS2 is taking time over the next week to show how the Salvation Army is helping meet many of them. It's part of our commitment to "community matters."

For 100 years, the Salvation Army has been providing a high school education to teen parents and teen parents-to-be.

"Young parents, pregnant teens can come and not have to drop out of high school and find a way to continue their education while their basic needs are met," said Major Thomas Stanbaugh, corp. officer of the Salvation Army.

Working with community partners, the school provides on-site childcare.

Students get their education from the Cardinal Academy, which makes it possible for teens who are pregnant or young parents to obtain a high school diploma.

"Our high schoolers are going to have a bright future because of the Booth program and the legacy that we have here," Stanbaugh said.

This is one of the many programs your donations to the Salvation Army help fund, and another reason why this organization is so critical to our community.

"We’re positioning ourselves to be a community center for people to come and get assistance, recreation and education," Stanbaugh said. "This is truly a community center for everyone."

CBS2's day of giving is Feb. 14. We'll be at the Salvation Army all day collecting food, clothing and hygiene products. You can also donate money.
