July 2024 · 4 minute read

Missoula, Montana; Montpelier, Idaho; and Cody, Wyoming, are the latest announced Latter-day Saint temple locations in each of those three northern Mountain States.

At the close of April 2022 general conference, Church President Russell M. Nelson listed 17 areas for future temples: Missoula; Montpelier; Wellington, New Zealand; Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo; Barcelona, Spain; Birmingham, United Kingdom; Cusco, Peru; Maceió and Santos, Brazil; San Luis Potosí and Mexico City Benemérito, Mexico; Tampa, Florida; Knoxville, Tennessee; Cleveland, Ohio; Wichita, Kansas; Austin, Texas; and Modesto, California.

The most recently announced temple in Wyoming, at Cody, was among 13 listed in 10 countries by President Nelson during October 2021 general conference.

No groundbreaking dates or architect renderings have been made public for the three temples.

A specific site has been identified for the Montpelier temple: 2.6 acres where Montpelier’s previous City Hall was torn down in March 2021 and across the street from the Montpelier Tabernacle, a 1,200-seat semicircular building constructed in 1917.

The Montpelier temple is planned to be a two-story structure of about 27,000 square feet, or about the size of the Phoenix Arizona, Denver Colorado or Arequipa Peru temples.
